Crossing the Har (Bar)

Watercolour artwork showing a vintage Star Ferry crossing Victoria Harbour, contrasting with the modern Hong Kong cityscape background. I worked from my own reference photo that was also taken from another ferry one sunny afternoon. Although the ride only lasts a matter of minutes, it’s still the best and cheapest way to enjoy views of this amazing city. The names of the 4 originals vessels, Morning Star, Evening Star, Rising Star & Guiding Star were inspired by the British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem “Crossing the Bar” Which has the line “ Sunset & Evening Star, and one clear call for me”
