This watercolour painting was my entry into the 'Joy in Art' Open Watercolour Exhibition 2024 where it was successfully accepted and was displayed at the Hong Kong Arts Center in June 2024.
When I heard that the title of this event was called ‘A Taste of Life’, I immediately thought of the bustling street markets in Hong Kong where many people shop for their fresh food. As an artist, I find these places fascinating examples of everyday life, with the colours, smells, and sounds completely filling up my senses. Often I can overhear the phrase “買咩餸？” Which translates to mean “Buy What Food?” This is used as a warm greeting between friends and neighbors at markets and shows affection and care for each other. That’s why I chose this to be the title of my painting that captures a moment at a typical Street Market in Sham Shu Po, with the individual red shop canopies combining to create a semi-enclosed tunnel of activity that I find wonderful.
